Hi Kaveri, I am afraid that I can't see the logic. All organizations are vertical (some now claim to be lateral ). Someone supervises someone and that's the way it goes till the MD/CEO whose immediate boss is the board. If that is true, all companies will have the same employee turnover % in average. But that's not true-is it!'

The managers mess up and do not give the employee to stay back - 'He will leave'... There are a lot of triggers for which an employee may choose to part ways with the organisation; his MANAGER is a the TOP REASON for the same.

I think people changes job due to company policies. Manager may be one of the reason behind it , but friends manager is also an employee of the company & they are doing only their job. & their first responsibility is to implement the policy of that company by all means whether it is against the employees or for the employees. Managers are also human being like us . Please don't treat them like someone coming from Mars. Also some people have tendency of changing the jobs on regular basis for just a sake of hike in package & job satisfaction is secondary to them. & in last "Badal to Prakruti Ka Niyam Hai Wasta!"

More often people change jobs because of bad colleagues who are manipulative, selfish and controlling.such people who are selfish sticks to one job or puts in 'n' number of years because they fail to try outside( test their real skills in a competitive environment). they just become a sitting duck in the same organization, hence few good real people are forced to quit.

what if your manager is very nice and good but if there is no company poliy which may support your aspirations, what can ur manager apart from lending a shoulder to cry??---- YOUR Manager can help u in feeling comfortable in your day to day job or support you few times, where his own butt is not coming in question. your manager dont run your house your manager can try to get you 5% raise extra than co might have decided. ----So company policy/environment has to play a big role, MANAGERS ARE JUST MEESANGER OF THE MANAGEMENT

people can manage people (boss/manager) to some extend, but their need, financial expectation, wishes always adds in a comparison basis so wages. Then dissatisfaction linked with policy plays a vital roll.

If you are leaving a job and going to another job at a salary higher than the present salary then you are changing nio becoz of your boss but becoz uit is a suffocating environment, yuor boss can pass teh pressure to you but you are not abel to pass it to another person Let us all accept 1 fct no boss will screw his / her career for a reportee , they will pass on the fire and keep 90% credit. So if a person says he is leaving becoz of boss means that man cannot manage any perosn in life Look at the trend people shift jobs approx every 3-4 yrs ie they work ina company for 3-4 yrs and then move out, why so becoz they get a bigger pay check else where, but the reason they give is boss is bad No boss will be good it is salary becoz of which we move and not boss There are movemnets even when boss if good and there are numerous instances where I have seen this If any person get more than 20% hike in present salary there is movement, present market is offering 50% to 65% hike, so why will there be no movemnet Who does nto love money, job satisfaction and job enrichment does not fill your basic and family needs

I think the primary responsibility lies with the Company's Policy. If the company is run in a professional manner with systems in place and the management strictly adheres with the systems & procedures then the employees will love to work in such companies and will be pround. Insufficient professionalism and lack of systems and procedures forces the employees & staff leave their jobs.

I believe company policies & compensation that an employee draws are the two main factors.Even Managers are bound to follow those policies & becomes a target for employees to take all their frustration on his head. Most of the companies hire the candidates but dont offer the work according to their qualification & capabilities.Everybody is working on the same platform whether a guy is Btech/bcom/bsc whatever. So, please!!!! I say it loud.. PLEASE DONT DO THAT....It arises only frustration and jealously among employees.Offer jobs according to their Qualification. Companies are stiill treating their inhouse employees as labours just on the name of recession. They are not giving hikes to their employees but they hire an outsider on double pay packages. Why?? There are hell lot of factors which are directly/indirectly dependent on the company policies. These days the attrition rate is very high as the industry is out of recession and everybody wants to get out of the companies with the policies as Junk.

I personally have experienced that due to poor company policies, employees are not able to adjust. The same poor companies will hire poor managers, so both issues are interconnected. Also, if the work culture thrives on excessive competition, jealousy, and politics, then there is no reason for an employee to keep fighting for his or her rights. Management, represented by the lower managers, have an unnatural habit of appearing too profit crazy, thereby driving employees against the wall to perform. Many times employees, especially women, are fighting against prejudice, oprressive working conditions and traditional mindsets. It is very hard for excellent employees to survive in mediocre set ups. You have to master yourself first before you can master your profession, I feel and think!

I feel that change in job is mainly due to company policy/wages. In most of the IT company's the switching takes place , when they were offered higher positions with higher wags. In public sector also, the main reason for leaving the organisation is company policy and ofcourse the wages. The static nature of job, which is also due to company policy , also adds to frudtration , and people start loosing interest in heir company and look for change. I have seen my colleagues in both Pvt and PSUs sectors, who were really bright and intelligent, have changed heir job when they have found stagnant or limited role in their assignment.

I believe there are a variety of reasons; culture and wages are valid in some countries. When I worked with a division in Mexico, the wages were such that no matter how the workers were treated, 5 cents a hour promised could cost the company 25% of the line workers. When the company got a new contract, the same happened in reverse, it was not uncommon to have employees that had left and returned 4 or 5 times. Unlike some areas, the unions are different so you could not say "you left before so our policy does not allow you to be hired back". If there was a position and they were qualified, you had to treat them as if they had never left. This is an interesting question and you cannot discount benefits and wages as benefits and policies can make up to 1/3 of the employment package and empty a company if they are not equitable.

Well the company policies and wages are the factors for an individual to leave the job. Security and growth are the vital points one considers while joining any firm or company. We find plenty of idiotic bosses in the Govt organisations or undertakings but still one sticks with his/her job as he knowns that he is going to get benifited throughout his entire tenure. As with the pvt firms as long as the company is growing and making profits your boss will b happy with you but anything negative you wont be spared and will b made responsible for all the debacles. So work hard, behonest and dedicated and u will b rewarded where ever u r.

People always leave organization for their better future. Normally people leave, when they are not satisfied with companies rules & regulations & also wages policy. There are people who are loyal to the companies & change jobs rarely but these people are very limited. The reasons which you stated might not be always responsible for resigning. There are people who may leave organization for their personal problems or for their better career opportunities.

hi, primerly employee joins a company not a boss. Boss is a subset of company which success and therby association with the company depends on his/her subordinate support. Employee and supervisor relationship is lergely guided by company culture and values system. i have seen change in style of working of many supervisors with the change in organisations. In a materlistic world, wages is no more a hygiene factor but a deciding factor in selecting and continuing with the organisation. It has been found in many survey a good paymaster with reasonable good culture is high on attract and retain people.

I think an employee joins an organization after consideration of company policies and wages which he agrees to, not the managers whom he has to work with... and managers do not have thier own policies, they too are bound to follow policies and wages of company....... therefore if a person leaves company from given two arguments, the cause is policy and wages of company....

Obviously the main reason is comapany policy. Policy means the style to work as well as low salary below expectations. If employee didn't get job satisfaction he/she left the job. Sometimes it happens that the job is good but wages of company is very low below expectations. People style is different to the management style.

Guys I agree that certain resource leaves because of the manager, but that just cannot be the rigth one according to me. Because today most of the company if the critical/key/sme employee's is not comfortable with one manger they can work for other managers as they have plenty of options to swap the resources. So the questions comes why? 1. Road map of the company and where u fit it? 2. Visibility withing the organization 3. Roles and Responsabilties within your peer group defined 4. Aspiration for knowledge/role/power/importance/decision making/lime ligth/salary 5. Family/Education/Expsoure/Global Constraint 6. Flexibility of the policy 7. Growth within the company

People leave jobs because of their team managers, team politics, female colleagues who are manipulative, back-stabbing, etc. Bad apprisial rating.. quite often the apprisal report always says opposite of your true nature ( your core beliefs). Thus attrition rate is high, and this is a on-going process as long as we are working.

People don't change jobs; they change bosses. This is particularly so in the corporate sector where a target-driven boss finds a soft target in a subordinate- if the subordinate is new, even better- and lays the entire blame for non-performance at his door. After all, the boss has greater position power to manipulate higher management.

A quote says "A Manager job is to do things right". An employee looks at his manager for his growth, satisfaction and appreciation. Manager is the person who evaluates the performance of employee working in his team based on different parameter. Each employee next step get decided by the manager. If the next step planned is not matching to the employee expectation (could include salary, profile, responsibility, other balancing factor..), an issue starts. It creates a dis-satisfied employee. If it handled properly the dis-satisfaction would be resolved without further issues but if manager does not put effort to understand or does not able to resolve, this in turn raises an employee iteration. Impact of the immediate senior (manager) to any employee is most compared to any other factor. Other factors aggrevates dis-satisfaction.

It al depends on the situuation a person is into. Neverthelesss it is found that most people quit their jobs due to improper guidance/motivation/not identifying them as one amongst the team & their immediate superiors/managers are the one's to be blamed for. One's immediate boss/manager is supposed to be the torchbearer of one's rise or fall in his career. Obviously one can't rule out the role of the person, his attitude towards his superior/mentor & his own job profile. This is a very complex situuation if you ask me, and the blame can't be put on anyone without having taken a note of the circumstances that one went through.

Agree that people leave managers not the company. One of the HR survey finding has given same conclusion. to add the reason , it is observed that managers are biased for race, language, region, caste etc. It happens because of lack of supervision by their bosses on them. In such organisation, gradually attrition rate goes up. People argue that family managed organisations are more prone to such practices but this can happen any professionally managed organisations too if professional do not act in professional manner.

I do agree that people often change job due to their managers.Actually unless you get the job satisfaction, you cant be in the job for long. And job satisfaction comes from various things like job profile, work environment, relation with the hierarchies and subordinates. So our work appraisement very much depends on our manager.He/she is the one who can motivate our work, who can show new path in professional field, who can give recognition to our work.So either way managers role is significant for being in the same job for long time or looking out for another one.

When we discuss about the reason for an employee leaving an organization, we need to think about certain aspects from the emp's point of view. The reason why he/she works? Why he/she looks out for change? Whether for more salary or for a better job profile or for mal-adaptation with the peers. If the employee is much keen about the money, then obviously no one could stop his/her switch. Wherein, the reason for job change is for better profile or mal-adaptation with peers or whatsoever, then there comes the vital role of a manager. In such cases, when a manager doesn't play the role which he is supposed to play, then obviously it will drive the employee to move out of the company. Regards, John Rambo R

(1) work satisfaction (2) salary (3) releationship with managers
I think whenever any two of the three above mentioned reasons are true [generally one becomes primary and the other secondary] people do want to change.....
so it depends on person and orginization collectivly !!!

Mr.Rakesh i would agree with you that sometimes what happens is employees leave their jobs because of their friction with their managers. If an employee doesn't feel comfortable in interacting with his manager then it is neither good for them and neither will it benefit the organisation. So for the benefit of all there should be healthy relationship between the superiors and their subordinates so that the productivity levels will automatically increase .

Sonal says "Bcoz an employe have to work with n according
to the managers.He/She have to reporting to them.If any problem with
the manager or any conflict then a person should suffer".
I agree to it. We all work under a manager and report them. Any conflict arising should be solved by the manager. But If a manager doesn't take any initiative then the conflict can become the reason for leaving a job.
If the manager was able to solve the conflict in the earlier stage itself, no one would have left the job. Its the manager who are responsible for changing job ( but the mistake is of the employee too )
